The TrueNAS team has been hard at work, launching new releases, introducing fresh features, and connecting with professionals across media and entertainment to talk about the future of storage.

We introduced the TrueNAS Connect Open Beta, rolled out TrueNAS 25.10 “Goldeye” RC1, and joined industry leaders at IBC Amsterdam. Now we’re bringing that same momentum to Supercomputing in November.

Proven Performance in Action: The TrueNAS M40 at NIST

When the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) needed storage it could trust for critical virtualization workloads, it chose the TrueNAS M40. Originally deployed for Red Hat environments, the M40 quickly became the backbone of NIST’s secure, FIPS-compliant infrastructure.

Veteran systems administrator Mark Williams Sr. says the M40’s reliability and longevity set it apart:

“We bought an M40 for virtualization, using NFS with Red Hat. Later, we upgraded to XCP-ng and bought a couple more boxes. Now our security group and backup group are both deploying it.”

From lab research to backup and security operations, multiple NIST departments now depend on the M-Series for consistent performance, flexibility, and freedom from vendor lock-in.

TrueNAS Connect: Systems That Talk to Each Other (and You)

The TrueNAS Connect Open BETA is now live, offering a secure, optional way to see and manage all your TrueNAS systems from one place. It’s built to give you visibility without taking away control.

Simple monitoring, update management, and system health insights, all running privately by design.

Whether you’re managing a self-hosted lab, a production cluster, or planning for enterprise use, Connect helps you spend less time juggling tabs and more time building. Enterprise support will be available next year, so it’s not yet intended for enterprise deployments at this time.

We’re refining it quickly based on your input, so if you haven’t joined yet, now’s a great time to hop in and tell us what you want to see next.

A Sneak Peek at TrueNAS 26.04: Searching Gets Smart

What if Finder and Spotlight could instantly search your TrueNAS files? That’s the idea behind TrueSearch, coming with TrueNAS 26.04 “Half Moon.”

This new feature brings native macOS Spotlight integration right into your storage environment, making it easier than ever to locate files by name, type, or metadata.

The early results are already impressive, with plans to expand to Windows Search support once Samba extends compatibility. We’re fine-tuning indexing to handle everything from small creative studios to billion-file archives (yes, billion with a “b”).

We also got the chance to meet many of our community members and hear their awesome journeys with taking ownership of their data storage. If you were there, you might even have gotten a chance to try some of our stroopwafels.

TrueNAS was also recognized at IBC with 2 Best of Show awards for redefining media and entertainment storage. The TrueNAS F-Series earned top marks for its unmatched performance, open architecture, and ability to protect creative assets without hidden costs or lock-in.

NAB NYC 2025 (6)

Next up, we’re heading to Supercomputing on November 17th, where the theme continues: performance meets freedom. Come talk to us about our award-winning appliances, including the TrueNAS H30 and F-Series, recognized at NAB and IBC for redefining media and entertainment storage.

TrueNAS 25.10 “Goldeye” : Polished, Powerful, and Nearly Ready

The latest release candidate for TrueNAS Community Edition is here, and it’s a direct result of your testing, your tickets, and your feedback. TrueNAS 25.10 focuses on making everyday management smoother and smarter. All this with refined ZFS performance, faster startup times, and a cleaner UI experience that feels confident and cohesive.

One standout is ZFS Rewrite, a long-awaited way to rebalance data across VDEVs without complicated scripts. Combine that with improved NVMe/TCP support, better ARC memory handling, and a wave of small but meaningful fixes, and you’ve got a release that runs like a well-tuned system.

Even the little touches, like an improved feedback button and migration fixes for older installs, came straight from community insight.

This release is your feedback turned into software. We’re almost ready to call it final and as always, we are asking you to come and test it.

Keep an eye out — the official 25.10 “Goldeye” release is coming in less than two weeks. In the meantime, you can read the full breakdown here: TrueNAS 25.10 RC1 Blog.
